The Price of Gas (and other things)

We've been in Chile for a month and I still go into shock
every time I see a price tag!

For instance, here's what you'll pay for one LITER of gas -

And here are a few things we spotted at Lider (Chile's version of Walmart.
They even have a few things that are the Great Value brand).

I laughed out loud when I saw this.  I think we had some pink toilet paper in the 70's.
Does anyone else remember colored TP?

Those of you with babies - are you hyperventilating with me?

And finally the necessities - eggs and milk. Neither are refrigerated here!
Guess how long we wandered around the store the first time looking for them :)

The eggs come in six packs...
This price is for a liter. They don't sell milk by the gallon here.
This was our total for four bags of groceries. They always ask you if you want to pay on credit.
You can divide your grocery total into several payments if you want! How would you ever catch up?
To figure out the cost in American dollars you would divide by 1000 and then times by two.
The total cost for our groceries would be about $60.

Lider is a HUGE store and you ride a moving sidewalk
(like at the airport only this one is sloped)
to get in and out of the store. The sidewalk and the
cart wheels are magnetic so even though
you are going downhill the cart doesn't roll.

Next time you go grocery shopping think of us and you'll feel like you're getting a bargain.
